Orchestra awaydays

 Abingworth Hall

The orchestra held a very successful weekend away this year on February 25 and 26 at Abingworth Hall, a delightful HF Holidays hotel at Thakeham, East Sussex at the foot of the South Downs (see pictures in our Photo Gallery).  We spent the weekend playing through lots of music (Dvorak 8, Mozart 40, overture to the Barber of Seville, Sibelius's Valse Triste, and a version of Dvorak's Legends tried out by the winds), and generally enjoying a weekend in the country.

These awaydays have been a highlight of the orchestra calendar since the beginning.  Members play as an orchestra as well as in small ensembles and spend social time together.  In 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 the venue was Headley Park,  a pleasant hotel in extensive grounds near Farnham in Hampshire.  In 2015 the awayday moved to Chorleywood and then to Abingworth Hall in 2016.

Leader: Kingston 3AO

"Leader: Kingston 3rd Age Orchestra

The Kingston 3rd Age Orchestra will need a new leader from January 2019.  After 4 years with us, our current leader, Madeleine Easton is moving to Australia.  Therefore we are looking for a professional or semi-professional violinist with experience of leading and encouraging amateur musicians, who is able to lead sectional rehearsals with enthusiasm and insight (usually 3 or 4 per term), take the whole rehearsal if necessary, and have a knowledge/ appreciation of wind instruments in such circumstances.  The orchestra rehearses on Wednesday mornings in Kingston upon Thames, and gives two Sunday afternoon concerts a year in March and December.

Please contact Jonathan Law (Chairman of the K3AO) for more information, and to indicate interest, by noon on Tuesday 27th November 2018, by email (jptbhrlaw@btinternet.com).  Candidates may submit a short (one page) CV if they wish.  A shortlist of candidates will be drawn up with the help of our conductor, Rupert Bond, and further information will be distributed to them on 28th November, asking for responses by Fri 7th December 2018."
